DevOps / QA Developer

Profitable Portland, Oregon, company, Daily Insight Group, is seeking a full-time DevOps / QA lead. Our development cycle is rapid, iterative, and driven by metrics, analytics and market trends. Our partners include AOL, Huffington Post, Google, Facebook amongst many others. Our servers process several million requests daily and are responsible for delivering content to email inboxes, Twitter feeds, social graphs, smart phones and web browsers several billion times a year. Our technology stack is built on the latest web and application technologies including Node.js, Nginx, PostgreSQL 9, MongoDB, etc.

We're just beginning to formalize our new QA process, so you will provide your expertise to help us create a process that reduces risk without slowing us down. Test automation, scripting and code management (Git) and deployment (Capistrano) are all key functions of this role. Experience with shell scripting, basic Linux configuration and management, are all essential skills for this role. Experience working in a C.I. environment is a serious plus.

Responsibilities

•   Own the QA and deployment process. From the running of unit tests, debugging issues from a client side / application perspective, end user testing, and test automation.
•   Develop and deploy automated tests and frameworks for both front end and back end tests.
•   Help troubleshoot and resolve environment related issues on company web, database and file servers.
•   Help monitor system stability and performance related to application releases.
•   Ensure 24x7 operation. You will be part of an on-call rotation.
•   Write solid documentation and keep the company's wiki up to date for other team members' benefit.

Requirements

•   3+ years web development (PHP, Ruby, JavaScript), systems engineering / management, or related experience.
•   Scripting ability (bash/perl/php/python/ruby, or similar).
•   Solid understanding of SQL for querying relational databases, content systems, etc.
•   Excellent verbal and written skills.
•   Excellent time/resource management skills.

•   Our environment is mostly CENTOS Linux. Prior working experience with this distro is a serious plus.
•   Experience in working in an agile C.I. environment.
•   Web analytics experience.
